If you like scary movies, then “It: Welcome to Derry” is right for you. Featuring Pennywise the Dancing Clown, this MA-rated, HBO series movie is packed with horror and thrill.
A warning: since this show is set earlier in American history, it includes are some racially-insensitive lines that may pop up from time to time.
The acting of the children and the adults was really great. I could really see the fear in their eyes when everything was happening to them. I could definitely see how close knit the actors are because they looked so comfortable working together.
Personally I think this series is way better than the last season of “Stranger Things” because the plot in “Welcome to Derry” was more engaging and it also had more action. Even though the episodes were about the same length as “Stranger Things”, the events feel less random.
The director made sure to keep some of the “same vibes as Andy Muschetti’s ‘It,’ while also exploring more themes for Stephen King’s book,” Mama Geeky’s review stated.
The modifications to the character from 1990 to now really stood out to me. The way Pennywise is scarier this year because of the makeup and dim lighting sets the tone for this late night watch.
In this series, Pennywise and Bob Grey are played by Bill Skargård. I think he did an excellent job of portraying the creepiness and essence of a perfect horror clown. I especially liked the design of his characters. Bob Grey’s design gave off a neighborly with an undertone of creepy vibe.
I have never been a fan of most horror movies because I thought most of them were a little boring, but this series was so fun to watch. I also liked how they started with the loser club’s background, and how many of them came to be friends or how they were disliked.
Each episode starts with a bit of horror and ends with suspense. For example, in a surprise, Pennywise is not introduced until episode five.
