From their roasted beef, ham, chicken, and gyro sandwiches to their curly fries, Arby’s does truly have the meats, as their slogan would say. In addition, Arby’s relaunched a barbecue lineup that is full of sweet, tangy, and spicy flavors.
Arby’s has brought a new meat into their menu, brisket. The brisket is cooked for 13 hours and is coated with smoky bark.
According to Steven Morea of Delish, these new meats are cooked for different periods of time: “Fast-food BBQ is hardly a new idea, but Arby’s is trying to set this lineup apart by emphasizing the meat’s longer cook times.”
The Quarter Pound Brisket Sandwich can come in two ways, chopped or sliced. The new Mac Bowl is also a new addition, which features mac and cheese, tender brisket, and crispy onions.
The brisket sandwich and the Mac Bowl is offered as a meal. Starting at $12.99, Emily Hunt of TastingTable wrote that she would’ve rather taken her money someplace else.
“The cost ended up being a huge determining factor in my ultimate verdict of whether these menu items are worth your hard-earned dollar.”
Alongside with the price, Hunt stated how the quality of the food should match its price.
“But because fast food prices are steadily rising, I believe that quality also needs to increase to match the premium price points that companies are implementing,” she noted.
Another item was added to their menu: the Pulled Pork Sandwich. Sydney Wingfield, a food reviewer of All Recipes, said that “the returning sandwich is made with a quarter pound of meat, which is hickory-smoked at a low temperature for four hours to ensure you’re getting as much flavor as possible.”
Arby’s is also adding a change where customers can format their own sandwich by choosing a variety of meats, structure, and sauce.
All of this attention made me want to try this brisket sandwich myself. Unfortunately, I wasn’t able to get the Mac Bowl, so I got their fan-favorite side curly fries instead.
When I finally got my hands on the sandwich, I tore off the brioche bun, revealing the brisket and pickles. The meat looked “exotic,” but I was taken aback by the tasting and its price.
It lacked flavor, but it slowly improved once I added the spicy barbecue sauce. I paid $15 for this sandwich and just thinking about the sandwich makes me never want to purchase it ever again. Overall, for the meal being expensive, I wish the sandwich could’ve been tastier.
On the bright side, the curly fries and my drink of choice, Dr Pepper, made the experience less frightening. Realistically, I would never order this sandwich again; however, I am looking forward to tasting the Mac Bowl itself.
