On April 11 and 18, Justin Bieber performed his first live concert for the first time in almost four years at Coachella. Bieber even regained some traction on social media. So much so, many netizens have started to refer to Coachella as “Bieberchella.”
Bieber performed both weekends of Coachella; he did his first set on April 11 and his second set on the 18th.
During his weekend one set he started his performance with “All I Can Take” from his album SWAG. Then going on to perform a few more songs from SWAG and SWAG II before bringing out The Kid LAROI for “STAY.”
After bringing out The Kid LAROI, Bieber performed a few more songs before bringing out his laptop. When he brought out his laptop he mirrored it to the large screen behind him and pulled up his music video to “Baby.” As the song played, he danced, jumped, and sang along to the song on stage.
Journalist Spencer Kornharber wrote in an article published on The Atlantic saying, “He pulled up videos and performances from earlier in his career and alternated between singing along and just bobbing his head to the sound of his cute-little-boy voice.”
Bieber then shifted to performing his more known songs like “Beauty and a Beat” and “That Should Be Me” before performing covers of “With You” by Chris Brown and “So Sick” by Ne-Yo.
Then he went on to perform a few more of his own songs before closing up his weekend one set by singing “Daises” from his album “SWAG” and bringing out Mk.gee to do the song with him.
Many Bieber fans or “Beliebers” took to social media to express their satisfaction with his Coachella set because it gave them a sense of nostalgia.
During his weekend two Coachella set, Bieber made sure to keep that same sense of nostalgia. He started his set the same as the first weekend by first performing a few songs off of SWAG, eventually switching gears into his more well known songs.
However towards the end he decided to bring out Billie Ellish as he performed “One Less Lonely Girl.” Both Bieber and Ellish fans were surprised but excited about this because it is publicly known that Ellish happens to be a huge “Belieber.”
In an article posted to Variety Fair, reporter Steven J. Horowitz wrote “Eilish crawled up the stage and sat on a stool as Bieber sang the song to her midway through his Coachella set. Eilish has consistently credited Bieber as an inspiration.”
After Ellish stepped off stage, Bieber brought out Big Sean in order to perform “As Long As You Love Me” and “No Pressure.” After that, he brought out SZA so they could perform her song “Snooze” before he closed his set by singing “Daises” again.
Users headed to social media to express their gratification with the set. Specifically, journalist Hannah Abraham expressed their satisfaction with Bieber’s set by writing in an article published to Forbes, “It felt simultaneously like doomscrolling on the couch with my friend.”
