Looking for a club to join?
Well, whether you’re a freshman looking to get involved for your first year of high school or a senior looking to do as much as possible before graduation, FBLA is the club for you!
FBLA or Future Business Leaders of America is a Career and Technical Education club at Landstown High School. The club’s goal is to introduce students to business related topics to prepare them for their future careers through competitive events that members sign up for and win awards in, according to Senior and FBLA President Cara Nelson.
Along with those goals, Nelson highlighted FBLA’s goal in this specific chapter of the club: “Our chapter of FBLA specifically also focuses on community involvement and volunteer work through fundraisers.”
And you’re probably wondering, Why should a student like myself join FBLA?
“There are plenty of academic benefits that come with joining FBLA, such as winning awards that can be added to college applications and gaining public speaking and leadership skills. However, I think the most important benefit is that it’s just really funs,” said Nelson.
With the number of clubs Landstown has to offer, it’s hard to make a decision on which one to join. Luckily, Nelson shares how FBLA stands out among other clubs: “I think what makes FBLA stand out, especially against similar clubs like DECA and FCCLA, is that there is a really large variety of competitions.”
While the B in FBLA stands for business, Nelson explained further about the competitions that the club has to offer other than business related topics:
“I’m not a super business-y person, which is why I have competed in the more artistic events such as digital video production and public service announcements. There’s even competitions relating to sports, digital animation, journalism, healthcare, and a ton more.”
Senior and FBLA Historian Trang Bui gave her insight on the best part of being in the club, “In my opinion, the best part of being in FBLA is being able to work on competitions with my friends. Last year, my friends and I worked on digital video production. Every practice and filming session we had brought us closer together and helped us develop a stronger bond.”
When asked to describe FBLA in her own words, Bui answered with: “To me, FBLA is a community where you can grow. You’re able to build connections and learn. Through business, you’re able to develop a new passion.”
Additionally, Bui gave her opinion on why students should join the club as well: “Every student should consider joining FBLA. You’re able to form connections with your peers at school while also working on your business skills. These skills you learn through FBLA are essential for future success. Plus, states is super fun.”
If you’re considering joining FBLA in the future, senior Ethan Turner, gives a final thought on what to expect when joining the club:
“Expect to put forward your best work and try and win your way to Reston!”
