“Tomorrow is a new day,” wise words said by Ms. Cheritta Pridgen, the new assistant principal at Landstown High School (LHS).
Ms. Pridgen was born in Newark, New Jersey and she eventually went on to attend the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
Growing up, Ms. Pridgen originally wanted to become a medical examiner, saying, “It was very interesting to me to figure out how people died.”
Prior to working at LHS as an assistant principal, she worked at Princess Anne High School, Great Neck Middle School and Corporate Landing Middle School. She expressed that since she’s working at a high school again, it feels like she’s “home.”
“It has not been that difficult transitioning from middle school to high school, only because I worked really hard at Corporate Landing Middle School and I learned a lot. I work really hard to learn as much as I can. When I came here, I just jumped right in and started doing as much as I could to learn what I didn’t know.”
Ms. Pridgen has been able to make immediate connections with our other administrators here.
Ms. Morris, another assistant principal here at LHS and also one of Ms. Pridgen’s former colleagues at Corporate Middle School, stated that she wants people to know that “Ms. Pridgen stands on business, she may have tough news to deliver but she will also help you to make it to the finish line and she is one of the best advocates.”
She expressed that Ms. Pridgen is a “kind and helpful but direct assistant principal.”
She also provided information that Ms. Pridgen actually speaks Spanish and has translated for families. Ms. Pridgen decided to learn Spanish because she thought the language was interesting.
As Ms. Pridgen worked at Corporate Landing, some of our very own students who were former Corporate Landing students have welcomed Ms. Pridgen with open arms.
Chance Jackson, a sophomore at LHS stated that his first impression of Ms. Pridgen was that “she seemed very nice when she first got here.”
Jackson says that he wants to “learn what her intentions are with the school and how she wants to engage with students to make a difference.”
Ms. Pridgen is working harder every single day to be the best assistant principal she can be at Landstown High School.
Ms. Pridgen’s goal here at LHS is to “help students prepare for life after high school and equip them with not just academic and career skills but survival soft, emotional, and mental endurance skills.”
She is one of the newest editions of the LHS family so make sure to give her a warm welcome and introduce yourself when you see her.
